On this Earth Day, and every day, Green Mountain Floral Supply is proud to do our part by leaning into eco-friendly solutions within the floral industry.
From a focused effort on holistic recycling throughout our two Vermont locations, composting (filling 16 large bins a week!), re-use of cardboard flower boxes and packing materials, responsible trash disposal (batteries, lights, chemicals and more!), to paper bags at check-out for customer bagging, energy-efficient LED lighting in showrooms, consolidated delivery routes for reduced fuel consumption, and China plates and silverware in our staff kitchen (vs. paper & plastic), just to name a few actions.
In light of our commitment to sustainability, today, we are also delighted to announce that we are one of the latest supporters of the Wholesale Nickel Program from Sustainabloom, a program from the American Floral Endowment (AFE).
This new initiative empowers floral wholesalers to support industry-wide sustainability efforts with a simple yet impactful contribution.
Through this program, participating wholesalers are invoiced monthly on their orders from participating growers and shippers, and they can choose to contribute up to five cents per box. Our five cent contributions will go directly to Sustainabloom to support the development of educational guides, resources, and research—all designed to help educate the floral industry in sustainability and drive meaningful change.
“Joining the Wholesale Nickel Program is a natural extension of our values at Green Mountain Floral Supply,” said Tom Jennings, owner of Green Mountain Floral Supply. “It allows us to support broader sustainability efforts in the floral industry in a simple but meaningful way. When we all contribute—even just a few cents at a time—it adds up to real change.”
