As most of you are aware, we have seen a tremendous amount of volatility recently in the global market due to the tariffs being imposed and paused by the current administration. We want to address the questions being asked by you, our floral customers, about how these tariffs will impact our industry.
The truth of the matter is we just don’t know. Much like our experience during the early stages of the COVID pandemic, this is a fluid situation, and we do not have a playbook to guide us. So, all we can do is rely on the facts as they come and respond in a manner that is thoughtful and calm.
On April 8, Tom and I participated in a webinar called, Navigating Tariffs: Strategic Insights for Wholesaler-Distributors presented by the National Association of Wholesalers – Distributors. The biggest takeaway is that we can expect this volatility to be with us for a while, it is not going to go away overnight.
The experts on the call offered some excellent points about how to proceed with business during these unpredictable times. One of the best recommendations is for those involved in the business of contracts to make sure your contracts have appropriate clauses built in, to allow for changes to material costs and/or cancellation of product. This sage advice applies to many of our florist and design customers and is a great method of protecting your business.
We would also like to offer two pieces of information to support you immediately:
- Fresh Flowers: We promise to honor our published fresh flower price list through Mother’s Day 2025, regardless of an increase in price in the marketplace. You can feel secure knowing what we published is what you’ll pay.
- Supplies: Our supply showroom is loaded with product purchased before the tariff instability began. We will not be raising prices on product we have in-house. Newer product coming in may see price adjustments to reflect tariffs.
We hope this information will help you confidently conduct business for the imminent Easter and Mother’s Day holidays.
We will continue to stay connected through our floral industry associations such as the Wholesale Florist and Florist Supplier Association (WFFSA) and The Society of American Florists (SAF), to name a few. As we become aware of additional and timely industry-specific updates relevant to navigating federal tariff policy, we will share additional information.
Thank you, our valued floral customer, not just for your business but for turning to us for information and support. We appreciate you so much and value our role as your trusted wholesale partner of floral products.
